What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Washed it and polished the glass (and back window vinyl) after several weeks of neglect, in the valeting stakes at least.

The Better ½'s Golf had a wash and glass polish too; keeps me out of the dog house... for now!

Came back on the weekend from a Nurburgring trip driven with my Boxster. Car did not miss a beat and was really fun to drive at the Nordchleife. Most days was sunny and pretty warm, but one lap started to rain and the track very slick - pretty much like driving on light snow on the ground. Got also some airtime at Sprunghügel in Boxster.

Same trip I visited also at the SPA. At least 3 teams were there to conduct, after the F1-race the practices - marshals did not let me to drive with Boxster at the track between the F1-cars...😳😁

Total distance driven 5079km on 2-weeks time.

Wow

Sounds like an epic road trip! Glad the Boxster performed well.

Driven over a piece of scrap/sheet metal which ripped of the NSR mudflap.  It was on a dual carriageway and was straddling both lanes, with a HGV on the inside lane I had nowhere to go 😞

I didn’t realise that the 986 had smart connectivity and is linked to my banking app….every time my bank balance looks ok, the car manages to find another way to deplete funds.

I’m just please it didn’t cause a blow-out, or worse.

Having been neglected since Goodwood the little car has had a bit of attention this week.

The trip to Goodwood with a mate seemed to be enough to kill the aftermarket passenger window regulator that was fitted last year.

Cue fitting a new OE regulator, and spotting that the N/S door handle micro switch needed a tweak - on the O/S the window dropped on the outside handle, not so on the N/S, but it does now.

The service had highlighted play in the front ball joints, but RPM did mention that it could be missing inserts.

Stripped down the N/S and I think they are present;

New coffin arms to be incoming shortly.

Decided to give black wheel bolts a try, I think they look better against the gold wheels;

On top of that she got a much needed wash; despite living inside she got parked under a tree the night before FoS and was looking a bit sorry for herself.

Still got to work out how the front to rear brake line fits, it looks too long and the wrong shape. Hopefully not too urgent though.

I really like these, aren’t they crazy expensive?

For what they are, yes. Though I think they finish off the boot/frunk nicely and do apparently offer protection from dings and scratches.

Manufacturers in general tend to charge silly prices for trim and under trays. E.g, I paid more for the ‘rough road’ undertray on my Golf R, just to protect the sump and that was a similar size to one of these.

I bought directly from the US when they had a deal on the pair. With customs charges/shipping they were ~£310. A good saving on the D911 price. They arrived in 8 days.

Cheers, they are good value in the US, but the shipping is so expensive.

I wanted to get some when I was over there, but quickly realised they absolutely wouldn’t fit in the suitcase!

I wonder if a group buy could be sorted….

Went down to Paignton for a few days with a couple of friends. Great run of around 420 miles round trip. Roads very kind apart from M25 on the way home. Expected. The box was slightly overshadowed by my mates new toy.

H

One of the last V10 Huricans made before they stopped production in July to relaunch a V8 hybrid. 😬

H

I think the little box still looked good and performed flawlessly.

Off to get the cruise fitted tomorrow. 🤙🏻

Nah, give me the 986 any day. Much more classy than the overgrown Transformers toy. 😁

Yes, a lot of people think they are transformers. Another mate has a yellow lambo and we do call that bumblebee 😂🤙🏻

Had an informal meet up with a colleague for a forward planning meeting and a coffee.  Took the Boxster instead of the daily and took and alternative route home through Rutland's B roads.  Exactly what a Boxster was invented for 😁!

Used to enjoy detouring off the A43 from Corby and heading up towards Harlaxton via Uppingham > Oakham.  Nice roads.

Went via North & South Luffenham, skited Rutland Water at Normanton then down to the Harringworth Viaduct.

Came back from Nurburgring a bit over a week ago and what a trip it was. Finally had a chance to go thru some images and videos from the trip.

Here are first the 'flight' image (yes, Boxsters do fly 😁) taken at Sprunghügel and another shot that looks like some car advert taken at Hocheichen:

Yesterday. Took the box on a 160 mile round trip to Colchester to get the cruise stalk fitted and coded. Also an ignition on supply for the camera on the lower part of the windscreen. Cable coming out from behind the clocks. Tested the cruise through the roadworks on the M25. All good. Very pleased. 🤙🏻 Car is in need of a good clean now after covering over 800 in the past few weeks. 😬

Spend this weekend some great time at the garage with my son to just about finish off the engine built.

Only thigs left is to change the old chain tensioners to new ones - I forget to buy oil to prime the new tensioners...

Another to do before installign this engine / tranny -package in to car is to chage the transmission oil.

I had these fitted today. Bought the parts from Matt at Type911 and fitted by a local garage with an alignment machine.

Nice to have the little rattle gone when driving over potholes. Need to find some twisty roads now. Next stop Hubbard upholstery.

I’ve just fitted some CTE arms, they seem to be recommended by a few good specialists including CG.

Did you need all new bolts as well, particularly the concentric ones? Good feedback on the make. There was a thread on here about which ones to use and they are a good price as well.
