If you are renewing everything from the engine forwards you may well be pushed to achieve the replacement in six hours. It is the sort of job that you don’t want to rush, even though in theory it is simple.

I did mine, very leisurely, including copious amounts of tea and biscuits over two days using my two post lift.

if you are handy with the spanners and have a decent selection of tools, then you will be okay. If like many others this is all new to you, just be aware…

Thanks for the heads up. In which case I might be better off getting my local specialist to do this for me. I think they quoted around £1k for the crossover tubes so realistically after spending £650 on the bits and renting a lift for 10ish hours, I might be better off letting them do it!

It won’t take 10 hours. It depends on what experience you have. I was just thinking that going in blindly into a six hour window. Get your tools, prepared, car on ramp and the floor panels off. Got to drop the front subframe with steering rack. there may be some stubborn bolts, et cetera.

It would be good not to be timed to an end limit.

if you are nearer, you could use my garage and ramp.

My local garage who i trust for all my work was about £800 all in for doing the coolant pipes - there doesn't seem to be much of a saving doing it yourself, and the chances for cocking it up (in my case) outweigh any possible saving  :)

Can’t see how those figures add up. From memory, my genuine Porsche parts, including all metal, plastic and rubber pipes complete cost about £720. This was with a 10% trade discount.

I suggest that they probably left in your two plastic pipe junctions which are approximately £300. I had to renew mine as my other pipes were corroded into them.

Nope they were all done properly, but didn't replace all the pipes front to back as it wasn't needed. Just the cross over pipes, the junctions and the hoses. They even showed me the corroded parts they removed. One side was leaking, the other wasn't far away

Ahh ok. Thanks for the clarification, this has at least made me think about getting some other quotes to get them done by some other specialists so I'll look into that before further considering the route of doing them myself! I'm pretty handy on the tools and will quite happily tackle brake jobs, valve clearances (on motorbikes) and stuff like that so not a complete novice, but appreciate the pointers.

Exactly, my point

All the pipework cost £700-£800 and therefore you only had part done.

My car is a 2008 model and is in perfect condition. Just goes to show that you can’t tell what the pipework is like underneath!

Attempted an alignment... except all the rear alignment bolts are seized solid. Sooo... cars are supposed to be toeing out at the rear, right?

Will get my friendly indy to free up seized bolts and replace subsequent coffin arms/ track control arms as required in a bit.

But right now, daily needs new tyres, so thats happening first!
