Billzeebub
The plastic rear screen on my 2000 986 Boxster was well past its best. It was impossible to see out of and had started to leak at the stitching. Furthermore doing the ‘Boxster Chop’ had lost its appeal! Hence, I booked in with Carhood Warehouse for a replacement mohair roof with glass heated rear screen. I dropped the car to them at opening time and had a wander into Sevenoaks town centre for breakfast. I collected the car 3hrs later with a new roof fitter. The difference is stark. I can actually see objects behind now and the screen clears so quickly with the heating element. Being able to lower the roof without exiting the car to smooth out the window is also a revelation. No more musty dampness either. Anyone with an early Boxster should go and see Carhood Warehouse and get the upgrade. I was really impressed with the whole process and the updated Hood is really good quality at a very reasonable price.

Clivescoobydo
I’ve the Bax International equivalent, best mod you can do to an early 986. Maybe not for the purist, but it not only makes life so much easier I actually think it suits and modernises the car. Mine was about £695 Edited March 11, 2022 by Clivescoobydo
SuperPaulie
The Carhood Warehouse one always looks weird to me, like the window isn't in the right place or something. I assume it's like that to make the access to the engine bay easier. I went for the BAS hood myself like Clive as it just looks way more natural to my eyes to the detriment of engine access. Was totally worth it, absolute bonus having the rear demister now. Edited March 12, 2022 by SuperPaulie
DavidC
Where did you get the BAS one fitted? I have a 2004 boxster and the roof may need replacing if I can't fix it myself. I'm keen to keep the encapsulated rear screen that the original has, but looking at the BAS site they just supply them rather than fit. Menoporsche
Try writing to them, I think they have a list of fitters near you.
½cwt
Different aftermarket design offer better or worse top engine bay access, so be careful when selecting. Best option, although they are all aging now, is a factory spec 2003 or 2004 hood with the full depth Porsche rear window that has an extra hoop thus giving full access to the top of teh engine bay when in service position and a heated rear screen.
